Breakthrough in Maximizing Triboelectric Charge via Ligand Chemistry

South Korean daily Veritas Alpha spotlighted research published by Prof. Jinho Bae (Director of BK21 Four Big Data based Ocean Convergence Education Agency) and co-first author Dr. Qazi Muhammad Saqib in the prestigious international journal Advanced Science (Impact Factor: 14.3).
The study, titled "Controlling Triboelectric Charge of Metal-Organic Frameworks by Leveraging Ligand Chemistry", solves fundamental charge dissipation challenges in triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs).

Key Scientific Innovations

  1. Ligand Coordination Architecture:
By systematically modulating mono-, bi-, and tri-dentate ligands (2-MeIm, BDC, BTC) within metal-organic frameworks (CoCE-MOFs), the research team demonstrated atomic-level control over electron affinity and surface charge retention.
  2. Environmental Resilience:
The synthesized hybrid matrix exhibited extraordinary robustness against ambient humidity and mechanical abrasion, overcoming traditional longevity limitations in wearable energy harvesters.
  3. High-Output Performance:
Achieved benchmark-setting power densities capable of directly powering microelectronic sensors, medical monitors, and wireless transmission beacons without battery intervention.
